Our Beginnings

In 2000, Elifurni was born from a simple frustration.

While working in construction, our founder, Eliud Gatheca, struggled to find quality doors, cabinetry, frames and interior fittings that met the standards he believed every project deserved. Good workmanship was difficult to find. Consistency was even harder.

Instead of accepting the problem, he decided to solve it.

What began in borrowed garages and small workshops has grown into one of Kenya’s most respected furniture and timber processing companies. Yet our purpose remains unchanged: to create wood products that are built properly, finished carefully, and made to serve for generations.

The name Elifurni itself combines the founder’s identity with his lifelong passion for furniture making. Long before it became a business, woodworking was a craft he practiced with his own hands. Today, that same hands-on spirit continues to guide every project that leaves our workshop.

We did not start with machines.

We started with skill.

What We Believe

In a world increasingly driven by mass production, we believe true value is measured differently.

We believe quality should run deeper than the surface finish.

We believe furniture should be judged not only by how it looks today, but by how it performs years from now.

We believe craftsmanship deserves respect because every handmade piece carries the time, knowledge and attention of skilled artisans.

And we believe fair business is better than cheap business.

At Elifurni, we do not chase the lowest price. We focus on delivering honest value through quality materials, skilled workmanship and responsible manufacturing. Every quotation reflects real costs, fair labour and a commitment to producing work we are proud to put our name on.

Because furniture is not simply a purchase.

It is something you live with every day.

From Timber to Finished Product

Unlike many furniture makers, Elifurni controls much of the journey from raw timber to finished product.

Our process begins with careful timber selection and continues through machining, kiln drying, lamination, shaping, assembly, sanding and finishing. Every stage is designed to maximise quality while minimising waste.

We see value where others see offcuts.

Small timber sections are reclaimed, joined and engineered into stable panels and structural components. Timber is matched to its most suitable application. Waste generated during processing is reused wherever possible, including as energy for timber drying operations.

The result is a manufacturing approach that produces stronger products, better material yields and more responsible use of natural resources.

Whether we are creating doors, cabinetry, church furniture, architectural mouldings or custom furniture, our goal remains the same:

To get the very best from every piece of timber entrusted to us.

Built to Last. Built to Serve.

Over the years, Elifurni has faced the challenges familiar to every serious manufacturer: changing markets, raw material shortages, compliance demands, workplace risks and even fire.

What has carried us through is not luck.

It is resilience.

We believe good businesses are built the same way good furniture is built—patiently, carefully and with an eye on the future.

That is why we continue to invest in skills, innovation and responsible timber utilisation. It is why we welcome competition, continue improving our processes and keep creating products that meet real needs.

Passion may have started this journey.

But passion alone does not sustain a company for decades.

A commitment to doing things right does.

More than twenty years later, Elifurni continues to build furniture, timber products and relationships designed to stand the test of time.
